Men Of Gondor

SoBH Riders of Rohan Warband

Here's a warband featuring 6 figures from the Games Workshop Lord of the Rings line. The warband has 3 horse archers, 2 lancers and a leader. I had to adjust some of the quality ratings to be able to field 6 figures. This will is part of a matched pair of warbands with the previously poster warg riders. And here's their roster.

SoBH Warg Rider Warband

With help from the Ganesha Games forum, I've revised my SoBH warg Rdier warband for this weekend's game. The warband is composed of 6 warg mounted models from the Games Workshop Lord of the Rings line with 2 archers, 3 riders with melee weapons and a leader personality. Click on the pics for bigger versions. And here's the warband roster made with the official army builder.

Warg Riders for SoBH Part 2

While waiting for the paint to dry on the Rohirrim, I took out the warg riders and snapped some pictures.

Warg Riders for SoBH

Here's my first warband for the upcoming Song of Blades and Heroes game. The author of the rules helped me out with statting these babies up and there's a nifty little warband builder by Raymond Forsythe that seems to be updated often with new data. You can find the link here .

WIP: 2nd Age LOTR Elves

Prepping up some elves from Games Workshop. Nice models but with only two poses.

The Muster of Rohan

My Rohirrim army is taking shape. The horses are all done now with the riders waiting for the brush. Here are the first finished riders. These are all 28mm figures from Games Workshop. " Riders of Rohan! Oaths you have taken, now to fulfill them all. To lord and land! "

Back on the bench: More 28mm LOTR

August has been a busy, busy month and I haven't had time to model, paint or game. Seems like ages since I handled a brush but I'm hoping to start again this September with the 28mm LOTR projects. First on the table after the 28mm Games Workshop Rohirrim are boxes of Hat Industries' 28mm Almoravid Light Infantry from their El Cid line. Unlike the 1/72 line, these models are molded in a crisp plastic that accepts model cement well. The models are perfect substitutes and additions to my Haradrim army. More on these soon.

Riders of Rohan WIP: Starting with the Greys

I couldn't sleep last night and didn't want to count sheep. Ended up painting horses. Up first are the Greys. These are for my Games Workshop Rohirrim and are in 28mm scale. Here are the base painted Greys using the lovely Acrylicos Vallejo acrylic paints. They actually have two lines -- the Model range and the Game Color range -- that are perfect for models such as these.  Very, very nice acrylics. I've been painting since last night and a few hours this morning after breakfast but its been slow going. I'm feeling my age, my eyes are getting tired faster nowadays... Damn bridles and tacks! I decided to start with the Greys because they're the ones I have more reference pictures of. Here's wiki's entry regarding the horse color: Gray or grey is a coat color of horses characterized by progressive silvering of the colored hairs of the coat. Most gray horses have black skin and dark eyes; unlike many depigmentation genes, gray does not affect ...

Riders of Rohan: Horses Primed

After assembling the horses, I primed them all with a primer grey. Then I divided them into 3 groups. One set was spray painted with red brown. These would be painted as duns, light bays, chestnuts and maybe some piebalds.   Another set was spray-painted black. These would be painted as blacks and dark bays. Finally, the last set was spray painted with a lighter grey. They'll be painted as greys and a few roans. As an illustrator for my day job, I managed to amass quite a bit of horse reference material and painting model horses accurately has become quite an obsession with me. Here are some older model horses I've painted. I hope my Rohan horses end up much better. Here's the wiki entry on Equine Color.

For AD&D Battlesystem 2nd Edition. Forth, Eorlingas!

Game Envy and some painted LOTR

I haven't been able to indulge in the hobby since I got sick this January. A pile of unpainted models and unfinished project litter my two table workbench. Even the gaming table is gathering dust in the garage with boxes of scale & wargame models received this Christmas as well as from orders made the previous year slowly pile up.   I managed to finish some more stands for my HotT army but that's it. Painting total's on an all-time low. The missus noticed it and took me on a trip to the gaming store after my ckeckup at the hospital. I saw this game of warhammer 40K being played and took some pictures of the models. Some of the models are WIP customs. One of the WIP customs looks kinda like an alien pornstar but the modeler assured the other guys that he'll be refining the model soon. The second WIP was inspired by Kerrigan from the PC game Starcraft. I wasn't able to take more pictures but the Tau army looked spiffy and I liked the modelling work on their sh...
