Knights at War: Arsouf

Arsouf game using 1:72 Crusaders and Saracens from Italeri. Just a dry run though. The bases are too big for the hexes. I'll try to enlarge the board or adapt the scenario for 1:72. posted from Bloggeroid

Zvezda's Last Full Box? :(

pic from https://www.facebook.com/Zvezda.ModelKits Feb 27 2013 news from Plastic Soldier Review. Zvezda's last full box? Slightly ahead of schedule, Zvezda have announced the release of their set 8078 German Infantry Platoon (for the years 1942 to 1944). With the release of this set there are no more full figure sets promised from this manufacturer, although a large number of game pieces are due over the coming months. Whether they will return to making full sets in the future is impossible to say, but we will certainly be sad to see an end to what has been for the most part an outstanding range of figures. pic from https://www.facebook.com/Zvezda.ModelKits I'm not a fan of their 4 figure minibox sets meant for Art of Tactic and am bummed out. Really bummed out.

Back on the bench: More 28mm LOTR

August has been a busy, busy month and I haven't had time to model, paint or game. Seems like ages since I handled a brush but I'm hoping to start again this September with the 28mm LOTR projects. First on the table after the 28mm Games Workshop Rohirrim are boxes of Hat Industries' 28mm Almoravid Light Infantry from their El Cid line. Unlike the 1/72 line, these models are molded in a crisp plastic that accepts model cement well. The models are perfect substitutes and additions to my Haradrim army. More on these soon.

Knight Templars

54mm Knight Templars. Playing around with a camera app on my Galaxy Wifi S. 'Nuff said.

The 54mm project

It was that time of the year when one gets to the point that he really, really has to get stuff arranged. The Southeast asian summer had already come and gone but my hobby room is still uber messy with little space left to engage in model making. Last week, I hunkered down and began the long and tedious task of arranging everything. Lo and behold, an old, large box yielded packs of 54mm plastic toy soldiers. I sp[ent the next few hours sorting them out and decided to try and make some HOTT armies out of them. Here are a few of the figures I found. Hopefully, they'll be repainted and rebased as HOTT armies before the year is out. And hopefully, the hobby room gets cleaned up too. These pictures were also earlier posted at my toy collection blog . You can find notes about them there.

1/72 Saracen Riders

Italeri's 1/72 Saracens. I enjoyed painting these, especially the horses. This is the next set of matched pairs armies I'll be building -- The armies of Salah al-Din al-Ayyubi, more popularly known as Saladin , and the crusading knights of Richard III. they'll be based for Warmaster Ancients. The horses are all painted to depict different greys. Grey is a coat color of horses characterized by progressive silvering of the colored hairs of the coat. Most gray horses have black skin and dark eyes. Gray horses may be born any base color, depending on other color genes present. White hairs begin to appear at or shortly after birth and become progressively lighter as the horse ages. The color is most commonly seen in breeds descended from Arabian ancestors. Many of us unfamiliar with horses call gray horses "white." However, a gray horse whose hair coat is completely "white" will still have black skin except under markings that were white at birth and dark eye...
