"They came on in the same old way and we defeated them in the same old way."
Duke of Wellington
- Lined 'em all up
- Took a can of Tamiya Gunship Grey, waited for a sunny day and went spray-happy
- Lathered on black acrylic on the guns, belts and pouches. Let the suckers dry.
- Broke out deep black drawing ink and carefully applied a wash on each figure
- Used a light blue acrylic on the eyes with a 0 brush.
- Washed the eye areas with Winsor and Newton ultramarine blue.
- Had a tall glass of iced coffee and fed the cat. And inbetween the steps above, I managed to work on a HotT Dwarf army too...

Great work, I especially like how you've made their eyes glow. The black armour is very effective.

I've been a fan of these figs since they were released back in the day, and this is the best paint job of them I've seen yet! They've totally got this sort of 'black ops' vibe going...
ReplyDeleteThanks! I plan to add a bit of highlighting to the armor, just to liven things up a bit. The wide expanse of grey surfaces seem a bit too gloomy.
ReplyDeleteI've got a box of these oddballs kicking around somewhere...picked them up for cheap at a big city hobby shop. At that time, when I unboxed them, I thought "man, they're butt-ugly...I've wasted my money" and put them aside...but now, on second thought, and with a bit of conversion love, they look like they could stand in well for pre-Heresy Marines, or perhaps even Grey Knights.
ReplyDeleteTime to scour the Web and see if I can scrounge up a few extra boxes...
Great figures effective paint job and my local hobby store has 20 boxes in stock - RESULT! Ordering some now THANKS for the inspiration...
